Janus is a sophomore at Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California. His main passion in the humanities is philosophy, though he deeply enjoys reading and writing as well. To stay fit, Janus practices karate, in which he was a former national team member and multiple time national medalist.

Violet is in her last year of her Bachelors in English at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She works at a library where she shares her love of literature with her community. Outside of work and school, Violet loves to read and write. She is most proud of her extensive philosophy and theory library.

Alexandria Lauff

Consultant

Alex is a student at Dickinson College. Hailing from the Greater Philadelphia area, she majors in English with a minor in Creative Writing. She is especially interested in the intersection of literature and philosophy, Shakespeare, women’s perspectives, and poetry interpretation. In her off time, she enjoys the great outdoors and the performing arts. She is passionate about bringing the humanities to everyone; to study art is to become more human. It is the most precious thing we have.

Siegrid Tuttle

Project Manager:

Odyssey Scholars

Siegrid is currently taking a gap year from New York University to serve in Americorps, working on youth development and food access programs in Appalachia. At NYU, she studies a combination of history, ethics, and economics at NYU’s School of Individualized Study. She sometimes works as a wilderness guide (and is yet to lose a client in the woods).

Yaya Toubassy

Co-Founder

Yaya is a junior at Windward School in Los Angeles, California. She is a die-hard history nerd, and likes to write in her free time. She also loves singing, and performs at various concerts and competitions throughout the year. A strange hobby she has is buying dilapidated antique books and fixing them up.

Callum Cavallaro

Submission Evaluator

Callum is a first year student at the University of Chicago planning to major in English. Within a larger interest in the humanities, Callum’s study focuses on literature, culture, and philosophy. Callum is a reader and a writer, trains and teaches in traditional Taekwon-do, and runs a humanities-oriented blog.

Alaina Ruffin

Marketing & Outreach

Alaina Ruffin (she/her) is a recent graduate of George Mason University, where she received an honors B.A. in English Writing and Rhetoric. She greatly enjoys creative writing and has done so for as long as she can remember, and has a particular interest in using storytelling as a way to make academic concepts, theories, and content accessible to a broader audience. Outside of school, work, and advocacy, she enjoys reading, writing, and tending to her many plants.
